Thank you Manuel Neuer

Final match of football Champions League for 2020 was played August 23rd between Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-German in Lisbon. Bayern won 1:0 and everything will be normal for Futsal community, but his Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer did something that in some way promoted Futsal as well. He did it in many other matches but in this final match, these save was seen by a large number of spectators, and therefore caused great reactions.

In a very sensitive period of match he made one save in 1vs1 situation which is very common in Futsal.
With that save he proved that the application of Futsal technique in these situations is very useful for Goalkeepers in football.

On social medias many coaches and Goalkeepers from football began to point out that this kind of save comes from handball. However, I would like to express my opinion on that and point out through the facts that the technique from Futsal is much more useful for Goalkeepers in football, especially when it comes to close shots, as was the case in the already mentioned match.

The biggest difference between handball and Futsal from Goalkeepers aspect is about ball starting position (especially in 1vs1 situation). In the handball player start the shot from a height of 2-2,5m and in Futsal it starts from the ground LIKE IN football. It means Goalkeeper’s basic position is different and that’s the reason why football Goalkeepers should use Futsal 1vs1 technique and I am sure they will use it more and more in the future. Neuer’s 1vs1 technique is not perfect but it’ was useful. Anyway, he promotes Futsal Goalkeepers technique in a great way.
